Localization, Smoothness, and Convergence to Equilibrium for a Thin Film Equation

چکیده
We investigate the long-time behavior of weak solutions to the thin-film type equation vt = (xv − vvxxx)x , which arises in the Hele-Shaw problem. We estimate the rate of convergence of solutions to the Smyth-Hill equilibrium solution, which has the form 1 24 (C − x2)2+, in the norm |||f |||2m,1 = ∫ R (1 + |x|)|f(x)|dx+ ∫ R |fx(x)|dx . We obtain exponential convergence in the ||| · |||m,1 norm for all m with 1 ≤ m < 2, thus obtaining rates of convergence in norms measuring both smoothness and localization. The localization is the main novelty, and in fact, we show that there is a close connection between the localization bounds and the smoothness bounds: Convergence of second moments implies convergence in the H Sobolev norm. We then use methods of optimal mass transportation to obtain the convergence of the required moments. We also use such methods to construct an appropriate class of weak solutions for which all of the estimates on which our convergence analysis depends may be rigorously derived. Though our main results on convergence can be stated without reference to optimal mass transportation, essential use of this theory is made throughout our analysis.

Instabilities of Thin Viscous Liquid Film Flowing down a Uniformly Heated Inclined Plane
Instabilities of a thin viscous film flowing down a uniformly heated plane are investigated in this study. The heating generates a surface tension gradient that induces thermocapillary stresses on the free surface. Thus, the film is not only influenced by gravity and mean surface tension but also the thermocapillary force is acting on the free surface. Moreover, the heat transfer at the free su...

Isothermal melt crystallization kinetics of PVDF was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Thin PVDF film has been fabricated by the solvent casting technique using dimethylformamide (DMF). Then, the samples were melted and subsequently crystallized in the range of the crystallization temperature (Tc) between 138 and 145 °C. The crystallization kinetics was derived from Avrami equa...

In this paper, an elastic shell model is presented for postbuckling prediction of a long thinwalledcylindrical shell under axial compression. The Ritz method is applied to solve the governingequilibrium equation of a cylindrical shell model based on the von-Karman type nonlinear differentialequations. The postbuckling equilibrium path is obtained using the energy method for a long thin-walledcy...

For some of the EOS models the dimension of equilibrium problem can be reduced. Stability and difficulties in implementation are among the problems of flash calculation. In this work, a new reduction technique is presented to prepare a reduced number of equilibrium equations. Afterwards, a number of appropriate solution variables are selected for the prepared equation system to solve the equati...
متن کاملThe Potential of Nanoparticles for Upgrading Thin Film Nanocomposite Membranes – A Review
Over the past decade, many applications were intended for filtration by membrane technology especially the thin film composite (TFC) membranes. In advanced developments of thin film membranes, an attempt was made to spread a new generation of membranes called thin film nano composite (TFN) membranes. However, in the last generation of TFNs, an ultrathin selective film of nanoparticles is coated...
